Name: Goliath
Age at Rescue: 8 mos.
Sex: M
Breed: Percheron
Passed Away At His New Home December 2009
Rest In Peace
Slaughter-Bound
Goliath was adopted several months ago. Yesterday afternoon his new mom found him lying down in the pasture. She called the vet right away and it was determined that Goliath had a twisted gut. For those that do not know what this means: Twisted gut or intestinal torsion is a serious, usually fatal condition of horses and other livestock. It happens when a blockage or sudden movement causes one or more loops of intestine to twist over each other. The loops involved have their blood supply cut off and become gangrenous, swollen and extremely painful. The usual treatment is the immediate euthanasia of the animal involved. This can sometimes occur when an equine rolls completely over on its back from one side to the other and the intestine flips over itself trapping air inside but it can also happen in other circumstances. The most humane thing to do at that point is to have the equine put down humanely and immediately. The owner did what was best for Goliath and now he is resting peacefully. This was a sad day for her and makes her appreciate her other adopted Draft Clifford even more. Twisted gut can occur at anytime in any breed, age, or size - it is simply a misfortunate circumstance.

Name: Grace
Age at Rescue: 2 wks.
Sex: F
Breed: Quarter Horse
Passed Away At BRR July 2010
Rest In Peace
Slaughter-Bound
Gracie was taken away from her mom at only a few weeks old when her mom was loaded on a kill trailer. Gracie unfortunately wasn't strong enough to survive on her own and passed away today. She also had a severe hernia caused from her being ran around at the kill sale.
Gracie was a sweet girl that went through a lot for such a young age. We are just glad she was able to pass peacefully and not on a kill trailer to Mexico.
